Nursing Foot Care Management

course information

This comprehensive 5-day course combines both theoretical instruction and clinical practice. At the end of this course, the nurse is prepared to provide foot care in either private practice or in a health care setting.

The course practicum is held at either an assisted living or long term care facility, therefore giving the student the ability to access 'real feet' for their practical experience.

Our program includes multiple medical professionals as part of the facilitator team. Each professional will present topics throughout the course as it relates to their area of expertise and how it applies to foot care nursing. This allows the student to receive the most up-to-date information and best practice standards in the field.

Included in the training are the standards of Alberta Infection Control Practices and specifically the sterilization protocols and accepted procedures for foot care nurses working in Alberta.

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to identify and understand causes, prevention and treatment of common foot and nail disorders. You will understand factors affecting foot health and be aware of your important role and responsibilities as a foot care nurse within the health care team. Practical advice and information on establishing a private foot care business is also given. In order to be successful, participants must complete a clinical practice component and an open-book examination. Students will be provided with the foot care manual and pre-test three weeks prior to course start date. No instruments are required to be purchased for the course.
